Growing up in Embu I would everyday look at Mount Kenya, a sight of beauty. As I grew up to the challenges we endure everyday while living in the world, the words, “There is no mountain you can’t climb,” made Mount Kenya to be always in my mind. These words have seen me explore different careers and opportunities in Kenya and abroad. They have led me to learning more and meeting people from all walks of life. As I share my origin, while in the U.S, I will talk about Mount Kenya and I get asked, “Why don’t we plan a trip to climb Mount Kenya?” If the times I have heard this question had resulted in me taking a group to climb the mountain, I would have by now with others climbed the mountain more than 100 times.

The Idea
“Man's mind, once stretched by a new idea, never regains its original dimensions,” A quote by Oliver Holmes inspires me to no longer see Embu as just an agricultural county. Today I also see Embu County as a place where mountain climbers every year visit. I have taken a calculator and done some math. If 50,000 mountain climbers come to Embu County and spend $1,000 in food, stay, mountain climbing gear, guides and other expenses, Embu economy would grow by a couple of billion shillings. Many young men and women would become mountain climbing guides and employed in this new industry.

The Decision to Serve my Country
Every time as I have tried to develop this idea, I have always being defeated by news coming from Kenya. Hearing those who were passionate and leaving the dream to go climb Mount Kenya ask, “What is happening in Kenya?” They have just seen the violence in Kenya on television after 2007 elections and no longer have the passion to visit Kenya. The negative stories in the news are sickening. As I ask how they can end, I find within me the power to change these stories. I can offer myself to serve the people of Embu County. I can be part of enacting legislation that will ensure Kenya does not have such negative stories. I can lead to enact legislation that inspire entrepreneurship of great ideas that enable 50,000 mountain climbers visiting Embu County every year. With conviction and passion that I can serve the people of Embu and my County I express my interest for seat of Embu County Senate.

Embu County
Embu County has an elevation of 1,350 metres (4,429 ft), and is located on the foothills of Mount Kenya. It was founded in 1906 by the British settlers for administration purposes and as an agricultural county. Currently the county is established as a 2,818 sq km about 700,000 acres land area. The current population is about 520,000 people. It is a county where the hardworking county residents grow coffee, tea, maize, Irish potatoes, sweet potatoes, cassava, millet, sorghum, bananas and mangoes.

After working hard the Embu people have not emerged from poverty as successive Kenyan governments have failed to enact policies that lead to sustainable growth. The unemployment levels are today estimated at over 30%. This means higher taxes and lower income for hard working people of Embu.

Embu County 2012 - 2017
Working together with other Kenyans abroad and in Kenya we will shape the right economic platform to policy that develops the great vision for Embu County that will include:

  1. The agricultural sector gradually developed and by 2017 Embu County efficiently producing food supplies from not less than 350,000 acres of its estimated 700,000 acres. This production should also give farmers a good income.
  2. The education opportunities increased to the level where every child in Embu County gets the best education in primary and secondary school. We shall also initiate more university projects in the county so students can further their education.
  3. Embu by 2017 should have more of paved roads that service farms and settlements.
  4. We shall also have at least two well-organized cities.
  5. The health system will have improved and the life expectancy increased to over 70 years as we aim to reduce deaths from preventable and treatable illnesses.
  6. We shall have a great tourism industry that shall see more mountain climbers come to Embu.
