Bishop Donald Kisaka Mwawasi

Taita Taveta County located in Coastal Region is a diamond waiting to be polished. The county borders Kwale, Kilifi, Tana River, Kajiando and Makueni Counties, and the country of Tanzania to the south. The county land area is about 17,000 sq km of land. 11,000 sq m, about 2.7 million acres is designated for the Tsavo East and Tsavo West National parks that are home to the widest variety of natural wildlife created. The remaining 6,000 sq km about 1.5 million acres is made up of ranches and settlements. The Mombasa road passes through the county for a stretch of about 150 kilometers dissecting the county into two.

The census 2009 record showed 284,657 residents in the county. The county is bestowed with Lakes Chala and Jibe, the Mzima springs that bubble with pure clean water, Rivers Galana and Mwatate, and the Taita Hills that researchers have said to have 20 species of plants and animals that are found nowhere else in the world. Voi, Tsavo, Mwatate, Wanduyi, Taveta, Maungu and Mackinnon are some to the towns. With these amazing resources one would expect Taita Taveta residents to live a high quality life. Unfortunately this is not the case. Majority of Taita Taveta residents live as squatters and in poor conditions. This needs to change 2012 going forward! I have decided to start and lead this change by offering to serve the people of Taita Taveta as there Senator 2012 – 2017.  

Personal Background 

My name is Bishop Donald Kisaka Mwawasi born and raised in Werugha location, Taita Taveta County. I went to Mudundonyi primary school, Kwale primary school, and Kwale high school. I worked as a sales representative with pharmaceutical companies and Ketepa, Covering the whole Kenya nation border to border. I also started an evangelical church in Mombasa before proceeding to USA for further studies. I graduated with a BA from Carver College and a MA, MRE, and (ABD) DMIN from Luther Rice University. I’ve had the privilege of starting another church in Atlanta where I am based in the USA. During my stay in the USA I have travelled extensively within the nation and observed great developments in different sectors. The road network is advanced and the city’s infrastructure is also advanced making life easy for residents. 

Taita Taveta County way forward

I am coming to represent my county with profound experience and extensive exposure to a world where clean water, a good house, clean air and a clean environment is achieved every day. Unlike those that have been representatives for decades without ever actually improving the quality of life of the people in Taita Taveta and Kenya, I hope to not only improve but modernize Taita Taveta for its people to enjoy every day they live. With a clear vision for the county, given the opportunity and working closely with the Kenyans abroad and in Kenya I will initiate an Advance Taita Taveta 2012 - 2017 Platform. In the platform we will explore new opportunities that can be achieved for Taita Taveta residents and eventually achieve the long desired high quality life that every resident deserves. 

The following will be part of the Advance Taita –Taveta 2012 – 2017 Platform:

1. Four lane road network in the Mombasa to Nairobi Road section in Taita Taveta. Four lane road network Voi -Mwatate –Taveta. Also to be paved and to be improved on will be the Wundanyi-Werugha-Mugange-Bura road.
2. Voi and Taveta will emerge to become well planned Cities with national airports and hotels that support the increased tourism to Taita Taveta County. 
3. By 2017 the platform goal is to increase tourist traffic by 20,000 visitors weekly at the Tsavo National parks and see Voi emerge to become the tourism capital of Kenya.
4. To achieve these results by 2017 and further ensure the advancement continues, every child in Taita Taveta should be able to complete 12 years of primary and secondary education and be exposed to technology as early as possible.
5. Taita Taveta should be able to attract University projects. Currently I am looking to find the Kenyan University project a home in the county. By 2017 Taita Taveta should have 3 New University projects started and further more than 50% of those graduating from high school should be able to advance to university. 
6. By 2017 we will have modernized our agriculture by creating many new commercial farms that will be spread across large parcels of land. By tapping into the underground water canals and springs Taita Taveta will also emerge as the lead commercial farming county. 

Call to Action

To my fellow Kenyans abroad I ask you to join me in creating the beautiful county of Taita Taveta where you can come with your family and enjoy a vacation every year. To the Taita Taveta residents I ask that you do not let your dream die by not embracing the idea of the future. The future is well thought out practical ideas that will advance Taita Taveta County and Kenya. This team of Kenyans that I am part of will not let you down.
