Nelson of Embu County preferred presidential candidate today is Uhuru Kenyatta. “He is youthful and is capable of understanding the needs of the youth. He will be able to provide jobs for the many who are unemployed since he understands the youth better,” he says. The closet challenger after asking 10 people radomly in Embu County is Peter Kenneth. Buxton a supporter of Peter Kenneth says, “He is the most accountable leader around. He can manage the country as efficiently as he manages Gatanga Constituency and this is what Kenya needs.” 6 of those surveyed favored Uhuru Kenyatta. 2 favored Peter Kenneth and 1 each for Martha Karua and Musalia Mudavadi. Whereas this is not a scientific survey, a candidate receiving even one person support in a random sample of 10 is a good start.

The irony of all this is that, as much as the stench from the dumpsite is terrible, many people still marvel when they see the huge mess that is the eye sore of the region. Residents however are being awoken up by the smell and they say this time around they will vote for a leader who has their interests at heart. One who can improve security, housing and provide jobs for them. They say they have repeatedly believed in empty promises before but this time they know better, they will go for nothing less than development.

All this descriptions can be found in Kijabe town that has strictly forbidden any sort of behavior other than one of purity. Behaviors and lifestyles such as drinking alcohol, smoking cigarates and engaging in adultery or fornication are not encouraged in this town. You cannot find any shop selling cigarettes, condoms or even a bar. So strict are these rules that residents will tell you the do’s and don’ts. The strictness in the lifestyle makes many to not even open up to an economic platform like on advanced from Kenyans abroad.

Whenever one harvests a part of the tree for sale, by the next day the tree miraculously grows back to its original height ready for the next harvest.” This they believe is a miracle since it enables them make money everyday and can only be likened to the Manaa story of the bible where the Israelites miraculously received food everyday without working for it. Meru is the home town of the Police Commissioner Matthew Iteere, the Assistant Minister for Education Kilemi Mwiria and the former Head of Public Service and Secretary to the Cabinet Francis Mathura. This may explain why residents say the town is very secure. Meru is a region rich in beautiful scenic natural resources and one should make a point of visiting the region just to enjoy nature the way God put it from the beginning of time.
