We appreciate Efforts of Beyond Zero foundation for prioritizing Maternal, Neonatal and Child Health, and the fight against HIV and AIDS. It is in tandem with the County health sector objectives. Malaria, HIV and AIDS, Tuberculosis and diarrhea being the leading causes of morbidity and mortality in the County. The HIV and AIDS prevalence in the County is at 4.8%.Only about 33% of mothers in this County deliver in hospitals assisted by skilled attendants. Maternal Mortality Rate stands at 880 per 100,000 live births compared to national average of 480 per 100,000 live births.

Neonatal Mortality and Infant Mortality Rates are 28 and 65 per 1000 live births respectively. The County has one of the highest Total Fertility Rates in the Country, at 5.6. Meaning that on average a mother in this County will give birth to 6 children.

Last year we launched Oparanyacare Program aimed at supporting poor mothers to access safe delivery and better nutrition for them and their newborn babies. So far this program covers 25 facilities. We acknowledge the Linda afya ya mama na mtoto program being implemented by Amref in 5 of our sub-counties ,transforming traditional birth attendants to Birth companions partnering with our health facilities to facilitate safe deliveries.

There is marked improvement in the number of deliveries in facilities where the program is running. We appreciate the complementarity of other programs supporting Maternal, Neonatal and Child Health like APHIA Plus. To strengthen referral systems in the County, we contracted Kenya Red Cross to provide free ambulance services. Future looks brighter for Mothers and children of this county. With the donation of this mobile clinic our mothers should be able to access services at any part of the County.

I pay special tribute to H.E the First Lady for having the best interest of our mothers at heart. Thank you being the Maternal, Newborn and Child Health Champion
