Liza Mucheru Wisner A Kenya Icon
She became part of the apprentice and made many of us Kenyans watch the show and competition that leads to the winner being hired. Whereas Kenyans are known for marathon running, Lisa would showcase that Kenyans also have the business mind. Out of 16 starters Liza would finish third. We met Lisa as she attended the Kenya Diaspora Conference in Washington D.C where she is enjoying meeting Kenyans. We Kenyans on the other hand were happy to meet our star from apprentice show and did not tell her the words, “You are fired.”
Born in Kenya, Liza would be known when she was part of the Kenyan National Golf team. She would be recruited to play golf at Texas A&M University and would also pursue a Masters degree. After school she would start an educational technology company which unfortunately suffered due to the recession.
In 2010, Liza would be chosen as one of the 16 contestants for NBC's show “The Apprentice.” Having competed until to the point where three people were left, she would hear the words, every contest who did not end up becoming number one did, “You are fired,” from Donald Trump the host. But to us Kenyans she was an inspiration and a winner.
As she attends the Kenya Diaspora Conference Diaspora she brings this spirit to the conference. She will be speaking on the topic of Diaspora Giving Back - Social Responsibility, Welfare and Philanthropy and will cover the topic on, Maintaining a balance between Economy and Society.
