Kenyans remembered the founding father on day 36 years ago when Mzee Jomo Kenyatta passed on. President Uhuru Kenyatta who was was still a teenager when his father passed on, led the 36th commemoration of the the first president of Kenya Mzee Jomo Kenyatta’s.

President Uhuru Kenyatta on this day wrote, “We are celebrating sacrifices which he and others made for us to be a nation. Were it not for their sacrifices, Kenya would not be what it is today. You look at this continent and you see many nations in turmoil, but we have been an island of peace and a beacon of hope to many. Kenya was built on principles of unity, patriotism and selflessness. For us to succeed, we must pull together and we must unite. Yes, we are a democratic society entitled to our different opinions but we should not allow those differences to tear the nation apart.”

1889 - Born

1904 - Kenya land is defined as British Colony Land 

1904 - 1930. Jomo Kenyatta is involved in the struggle for freedom.

1931 - 1946. Jomo Kenyatta lives in Britain for 15 years and in 1946 returns to Kenya.

1946 - 1953. Jomo Kenyatta is involved in struggle for freedom.

1953 - 1960. Jomo Kenyatta is imprisoned for 7 years.

1961 - Kenya attains self rule. Uhuru Kenyatta is born.

1963 - Kenya attains independence.

1963 - 1978 Jomo Kenyatta is First President of Kenya and leads Kenya for 15 years. He passes on on August 22nd 1978.
