The discussions on what would be the best gift to President Kibaki upon his retirement 2012 are underway. President Kibaki joined the leadership role in the early 1960’s and would be elected Member of Parliament and appointed Assistant minister of finance and economic planning in 1963. He would be reelected to parliament from Othaya Constituency in 1969 a seat he has held and won in 1978, 1983, 1988, 1992, 1997, 2002, 2007. He has served in every parliament since independence.

Currently he is the longest serving member of parliament with 15 years more than the second person Hon. John Michuki. He is also the President of Kenya from 2002 with his term supposed to officially end the second Tuesday of August after the election. Many predict his term will end 30 days after the second Tuesday of August 2012 after no one receives the 50% plus one majority and a run off occurs. 

So it is time to start thinking of the gifts the last leader who was there in the first parliament of Kenya finally retires.

President Kibaki is one of the known golfers in Kenya and members of Muthaiga Golf Club. He is said to love golf as a sport and this sport could be one the key reasons he has remained physically healthy due to this exercise. It would thus be befitting to give him a set of Golf sticks.

A Limo
Diaspora Kenyans are thinking that a limo as pictured above would be a good gift. The only concern is that the roads and congestion in Kenya would make this car not one easily to manuveur around. However this would be a great gift for President Kibaki would be able to travel in style with his buddies.

Golf lovers in the U.S are thinking that they could arrange for a vacation tour through Boston, Baltimore, D.C, Raleigh, Atlanta, Houston, Dallas, Vegas, L.A, Seattle and other cities Kenyans reside in to get an official thank you and a great 3 month vacation out of Kenya and with Kenyans abroad.

T-Shirt with Longest Serving Member of Parliament
Parliament is been asked to make a consideration of making a T-Shirt with the longest serving member of Parliament inscription. President Moi served from 1955 – 2002 a period of 47 years. Kibaki has served from 1963 to date and by the end of his term 2012 he will have served as member of Parliament for 49 years. This record may hold for a long time. The vice president Kalonzo Musyoka could break it if he opts to run for senator of his county and continues to serve until the year 2023 when he would have served 50 years from 1983-2023 if he does not run for president. It will a special politician to break this record thus hate him or love him President Kibaki will forever be an Icon of Kenya politics.
