Churchill in Worcester

“Kibaki should name Thika Highway, Kibaki Super Highway,” Churchill proposed as he joked and had the crowd in laughter. “The first president, Jomo Kenyatta, named everything after his name: Jomo Kenyatta Airport, Kenyatta Hospital, Kenyatta Road, Kenyatta University and then started on his wife Mama Ngina Street, and then went on to his son Uhuru Highway. His successor Moi after taking over would follow suit: Moi road, Moi university, Moi Airport…” and adding that the high schools are all called Moi this or Moi that high school. “Kibaki should stand on the road and say, ‘Mnajua, Hii bara bara tuite Kibaki Highway na ikae hivo hivo-You known this road we call it Kibaki Highway and it stays that way, way’”

Churchill,a famous comedian in Kenya, entertained the crowd with jokes; some he composed as he came to the event. “As we were coming here, I saw a Mercedes burning and the cars were passing by as if nothing was happening. In Kenya this would be a big deal.” Saying that people would be crying and saying what a great loss has occurred in Kenya if a Benz was burning in Kenya. And that this would be a big event with everyone would be talking about and not just passing by as though nothing has happened.

Churchill was in Worcester city accompanying the delegation from Kenyatta University that was led by Chairman of the Kenyatta University Council Benson Wairegi who is also the CEO of British-America Investments Company and Professor Olive Magenda who is the current Vice Chancellor of Kenyatta University. The group was in Worcester City to launch the Kenyatta University foundation, an initiative started by Vice Chancellor Olive Mugenda and Dr. Martin Thuo of Harvard University. 

“The exits should be called Karasani-Kibaki 1, Ruiru-Kibaki 2, Kenyatta-University-Kibaki 3 henceforth” added Churchill who said he had indeed told President Kibaki to do name the road Kibaki Highway.
