Hon. Ali Mwakwere 100 acres of land toward University
“I can find you 100 acres of land for the university,” Hon. Ali Mwakwere told Professor Njoroge as the two exchanged contact information. This followed the announcement of Hon. Mwakwere the Minister of Trade of his intention to run for President. Professor Njoroge welcomed this and looks forward to starting the process of establishing the university.
Professor Njoroge thanked the Minister and was impressed by the Minister’s prompt action on issues. He noted that many others with big pieces of land that are idle have been unwilling to accommodate development yet seek to lead the country. He said he supports leaders like Hon Mwakwere who are willing to find ways to develop the country and can lead to opening of idle land toward food production.
The Kenya University Project is geared toward putting up a university similar to the Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) where professor Njoroge has taught for more than ten years. WPI University, which was founded in 1865 and is a leading doctoral technological university, fully supports the project. The Professor looks forward to working closely with counties and the new leaders to increase opportunity in Kenya saying that in view of the availability of land we will be able to locate the university in Kwale County.
The Professor asked whether he will offer suggestions to the aspiring candidate for president who hails from Kwale County that has an estimated 200,000 acres held as idle land he replied, “It is a shame that the minister of Planning, National Development and Vision 2030 is talking about shortage of maize because of draught. Yet Kenya has millions of acres held by a few Kenyans that could have produced maize that would be used today and we would not have had to buy stocks of Maize from other countries because a few people who cannot farm and live in Karen or Muthaiga hold good farming land and yet season after season this land is not farmed.”
