Surveys on Environmental Impact Assessment Surveys on Environmental Impact Assessment

The Diaspora University Town Environment Impact Assessment surveys progressed in Taita Taveta as persons living close to the location the University Town will be built. Those participating in the questionnaire survey welcomed the project. They can’t wait to see it started. The main thing they cited as why they like the project and why it will have a positive impact is the creation of jobs for the maturing young adults.

Kenya Constitution 42. Every person has the right to a clean and healthy environment, which includes the right— (a) to have the environment protected for the benefit of present and future generations through legislative and other measures, particularly those contemplated in Article 69; and (b) to have obligations relating to the environment fulfilled under Article 70.

To ensure this right, an Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) report must be conducted and submitted to the National Environment Management Agency (NEMA) before commencement of development of various projects as listed in the Second Schedule as Projects to undergo Environmental Impact Assessment in the Environmental Management and Co-ordination Act, revised 2012.

Persons contributing toward the EIA report are excited that their views will be applied in the shaping of the environment of the University Town to make it a good town to live in. They also are excited that they will be able to get jobs from the project and even settle in the Town as they work in the town.
