The 5th Annual Kenyans Connect Rugby 7s Golf tournament and Golf Clinic, co-hosted by Safari Golf Club – California, was held on Friday the 4th of March 2016 at Royal Links Golf Club in Las Vegas, Nevada. The sponsored Rugby 7s Golf tournament is the first key sponsored Safari Golf tournament of the year and was a great success. Participants traveled from Kenya and across the USA to meet in Las Vegas for championship golf and USA Sevens Rugby.

25 players woke up early to play Royal Links Golf Club.  Royal Links is a challenging 18 hole, championship links style golf course, which is designed similar to the famed Old St. Andrews, the British Open Championship golf course in Scotland, UK.

The sunny warm Las Vegas weather was ideal as nearly 30 participants met at the Royal Links Golf Club in Las Vegas Nevada to participate in this annual Rugby Golf Tournament and Golf Clinic.  After a warm and hearty breakfast, the golfers were excited as they gathered to hear the rules of the day from co-host Richard Gitahi, Chairman of the Safari Golf Club - California (SGC-CA) -.  At precisely 7:30 a.m, the traditional Scottish Canon blast marked the start of the golf tournament.  The course was in remarkably good shape.  Safari Boston Golfers namely Tony Ngari, Francis Kibugi, Freddie Chege and Chris Esikumo, were amongst other Safari Golf Club Chapter members & fellow golfers in attendance (Seattle, Los Angeles, Dallas, Atlanta and NY/NJ). Players were mesmerized by the beauty and unnatural pot bunkers of this championship links style golf course.

After playing 18 championship holes, the players submitted their final score cards to the official scorer and returned to the Club House for the sponsored Lunch & Awards Presentation. Welcome speeches were made by the events Host Kenyans Connect, Jennifer Gachui and Chairman of the Safari Golf Club – California and co-host Mr. Richard Gitahi. The Rugby 7s Golf Tournament was sponsored by Coldwell Banker –Kenya, Double Diamond Resort, and longtime supporter and sponsor Chase Bank Kenya. The players were joined for lunch by His Excellency Ambassador Robinson Githae, Kenya’s Ambassador to the US, who gave a short speech and welcome message.  The players also heard from sponsors Coldwell Banker – Kenya, Double Diamond Resort as well as various representatives from the Safari Golf Club Chapters countrywide, The awards/Prizes presentation was presided over by Chairman Richard Gitahi.  Safari Boston Golf Club wishes to thank Kenyans Connect, Safari Golf Club – California as well as Danielle Callaway of Coldwell Banker-Kenya, David Bulindah of Double Diamond Resorts, and Chase Bank Kenya, for their time and sponsorship, which made the 5th Annual Rugby 7s Golf Tournament a fabulous event.

We enjoyed a wonderful lunch of barbecue steak, pork ribs, Chicken with all the trimmings, topped off with a delicious salad. Registered participants received complimentary Friday night tickets to attend the USA Sevens Rugby games and cheer the Kenya Rugby Sevens team with other fellow Kenyans.

Safari Boston Golf Club’s legacy of winning yet again proved that Safar Boston has the best golfers in town with Francis Kibugi coming in second overall in a hotly contested breath taking tournament.  The Rugby 7s golf tournament relied on live scoring via the popular app, “Golf Gamebook.” Asante sana (thank you) to Lawrence Muraya of Safari Golf Club – NY/NJ for setting up the Rugby 7s Golf tournament in Golf GameBook.  Francis Kibugi’s performance played a big role in helping Safari Boston finish strong, and showcases Safari Boston’s talented players.
