The Wild Beasts Migration, “A Wonder of the World.” Talk with JamboNexus Tour & Travel
Why millions of wild animals migrate every year from Serengeti National park to Maasai Mara and known which direction to follow is today the “Seven New Wonders of the World”. Over 2 million animals every year migrate from the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania to the Maasai Mara National Reserve in Kenya July through October. A talk with Carol of Jambo Nexus Tour Company in Kenya gives some insight on how one can be part of this migration.
Where does the migration start and end?
The great migration starts from Serengeti National Park in Tanzania and ends at Maasai Mara National reserve as wild beast move in search of green pastures
How many kilometers is this migration?
The distance from Serengeti to Maasai mara is about 240 km. However the migration route some of the animals will go through can make them walk two or more times this distance.
What are the exciting things about the migration?
As animals move they at one point have to cross the Mara River or drink from the river as crocodiles will prey on them. Once at the Maasai Mara, Africa’s largest concentrations of predators are drawn to this perfect opportunity for easy hunting. Lions are frequently seen attacking the herds—especially at night—dragging down animals. Packs of Hyena’s freely weave throughout the herds, singling out and separating the young and the weak. The hunted fight back kicking the hunter. The experience of nature on how different animals feed and defend themselves is a thrilling like any movie if not more thrilling.
What breeds of animals migrate?
The main animals migrating include: Wild beast, Thomson’s gazelle, Zebra, Eland and others.
