As the leaves turn yellow, tumble and fall, announcing the cold winter in the Boston region, Sammy and Mercy will be prepared to tackle the cold and snow weather together after one of the best weddings of the summer 2011. When I talked to Sammy he remembered the day that shall be engraved in his memory forever saying, “This was the best decision I ever made.” The decision made would lead him to lose his bachelor status as he wed his lovely bride. He recollects this day with a shining smile pasted in his face.

Accompanied by his groom’s attendants, Sammy would put on his groom outfit that day. The tuxedo was tailored to fit and he wore it with a happy face and overwhelming excitement. He had made sure he did not add weight so the clothes could fit perfectly. From the moment the clothes were on, he remembers feeling like he had taken a drink with too much sugar for everything inside his body felt sweet. At church he would watch his lovely wife-to-be walk down the isle. At times he felt like he was floating in the air as he counted and watched her every step. His heart was pounding with excitement as hundreds of friends’ eyes smiled and curiously watched him with a few winkles here and there.

“Saying ‘I do,’ and hearing my wife say, ‘1 do,’ was a blessed moment of pure joy,” Sammy is happy today in sharing and fulfilling the Bible words in Genesis: “Therefore shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.” And the blessing of his marriage as expressed by these words in proverbs 18:22: “He who finds a wife finds what is good and receives favor from the LORD.”

“Special thanks to all our friends and guests who walked with me during the summer and helped plan this day. Special thanks to all who came for the wedding.” Sam says the airlines in America benefited this day as the wedding was attended by friends from all corners of the United States: Ohio, Dallas, New Jersey, Delaware, Minnesota, New Hampshire, Georgia and Alabama. Sammy had taken special precautions and invited four marathoners, Joseph Koech, Titus Mutinda, who is the current 2011 Champion of Lowell Marathon, the Runner-up Benjamin Daya as well as Naomi Mugo. He had watched the movie “Run-Away bride.” If Mercy decided to run, the runners would be ready. Mercy did not need to run; she was a woman in love and ready to be joined in matrimony. She would walk to the altar and together the couple would start their destiny forward.

The ceremony was solemnized by Reverend Samuel Kimohu of St Stephens Church Lowell. Visiting from Elburgon, Bishop Muya preached the message of the day and said to the couple, “I know Sammy's family way back to his late grandmother Marion. She used to go around Kenya preaching the word of God with a horn speaker," Bishop Muya said. “Mercy, I can assure you, you are getting married into a humble and well grounded family.” From there it was time to feast and party. The diversity of friends in attendance led to music and dances performed from Luo, Kisii, Luhya, Kalenjin and Kikuyu songs.

The wedding also captured, “The who is who” in U.S. Kenya community. Many of the emerging Kenya New England Business community were in attendance: fourteen Pastors were there to bless the day and also ensure the meal was good, Kenyan radio presenter Captain Njoroge showed up and Talanta awards CEO Maggy Waruri was there. Hopefully the couple will be getting an award soon for the best wedding presentation.

Sam recalls that everybody was moved to tears when the best maid Maureen narrated the story of her life with Mercy, her childhood friend as she wished her friend well in the next phase of her life. Bestman Gerald Kanyi, who is a cancer survivor, also narrated how Sammy stood by him through his lowest times.

Sammy was born and raised up in Kericho and today owns a business that sells International Calling Time, both in wholesale and retail. He also provides money transfers services to Kenya via MPESA and other mobile systems. Those who would like to get calling cards, transfer money or some encouragement as they prepare to do a wedding can visit the couple at their business location in Lowell. Mercy was born in Nairobi and educated in Pangani Girls High School before relocating abroad where she works as a registered nurse as well as a business partner to Sammy. If you find the couple at their business place there together, then one may get an opportunity to see the album of what is now officially, “The best Kenyan wedding of Summer, 2011.”
